Subject: RE: Anybody up for some recreational math? Volume

For the bin volume, I came up with 828.25 cubic feet, or 30.68 cubic yards

For the extra heaped amount, basically is the volume of a pyramid with a square base of 12', then split it into two halves and inbetween is a prism with a width of 12' and length of 6'.

For the height of the pile would be

h = 6' x tan 25°, or 2.7978 feet.

The volume of the pyramid (both halves at the ends put together), is:

V = ( l x w x h ) / 3
= ( 12 x 12 x 2.7978 ) / 3 = 134.2944 cubic feet.

The volume of the prism in the middle:

V = ( l x w x h ) / 2
= ( 6 x 12 x 2.7978 ) / 2 = 100.7208 cubic feet.

Add them together to get the extra heaped volume on top as 235 cubic feet. That's only about 8.7 cubic yards.
