Subject: RE: Auto chain oiler on baler

East of Broken Bow
Had one on our old baler.
Basically, you filled a reservoir with oil (we used old hydraulic oil, thicker oil was very inconsistent about how much it would apply depending on temperature) and had a little 'pump' that would give a shot of oil every time you cycled the gate. There was an adjustment for how much oil per shot it would give.
It made a mess on the side of the baler, but chains and sprockets lasted a LONG time. Our baler was designed to have all the chains on one side, and the twine on the other. It was also old enough it had no electronics (twine was actually hydraulic tie) so it worked well, other than the mess.
