What happens when you press F2 (or maybe try F12) upon startup? Can you access the BIOS/UEFI menu?
E6540 is old enough it definately has a spinning HDD unless you have replaced it - there is a chance the drive has a problem at 10+ years old. If you do get it to boot, have a plan together to save your important data in a reasonably speedy time frame.
