A wheel dozer here with our moisture wouldn’t be very good. I think everybody has a different idea what you are going to do with a dozer. Biggest issue is hauling any construction equipment. Get the biggest you can haul. Hauling anything requires a trailer equivalent. If you have a 50000# dozer and can’t haul it, it will not get much use. We have a JD650J and it s a nice little dozer and easy to haul and does a lot of work but something half again bigger would be nice but the 650 is very quick compared to a older dozer, easy to use in close quarters, 6 way is useful for a lot of things, and easy to haul. It will not take a full blade of heavy clay because don’t have the weight or the power.
We used to have alittle JD 450 dozer with a 6 way blade and that was like taking a knife to a gunfight. We did alot with it but very slow. A tracked skidloader would run rings around it. If. Was looking at a small dozer I would look at a tracked skidloader first. Less maintenance per hour, more useful, way more comfortable, much quicker, will probably move same amount of dirt at once but you do twice as fast and alot easier to haul. It will cost more but you will use it four times more. A friend that does alot of tiling replaced a small dozer with a tracked skid and very happy.
Look at a job site and see what they are using. Don’t see very many small dozers anymore. ( under 60hp)
