| We are in the process of reassembling the transmission of an MX170, using a service manual as our guide. When reassembling according to book specs, the gear for fourth gear and the gear for third gear are separated by a syncro. When putting all of the necessary pieces on the shaft on which these gears are mounted and putting in place the final snap ring, gears three and four should spin independently of each other, however, with the snap ring on, everything is too tight and gears three and four do no spin independent of one another. We have noted when looking at the syncro, that there is a space that doesn't seem like it should be there. We have been unable to determine why that space is there and why we can't get rid of it. If assembly were together properly, it seems this space should not be there, and then gears three and four should spin independent of each other when all pieces are on the shaft as called for. This is a challenging problem to explain, and pictures are provided in an attempt to show the problem.
