I've wondered why they didn't at least have a synchronized transmission by the 66 series. As IH was also a truck company I've wondered if the attitude was along the lines of "truck drivers double clutch, so can farmers". Even worse that they didn't improve things with the 86 series as well. By the time they got the hint it was too late.
