Southern Wisco | I wouldn’t throw in the towel just yet. I had some summer seeded alfalfa that had to compete with volunteer oats that got really tall before the frost- tall oats going into winter was an heck of a mat and the next spring I had an excellent stand. Alfalfa is tough little seeds. I bet by second cutting it will be coming in well. Edit to add the picture kinda shows how thick the oats/ straw was at first cutting, made great heifer feed but sure was dusty. Second crop was pure alfalfa.
