Headline is that in 2022 20% of Des Moines residents visited a food pantry to get food.
in 2023, that number was up to 25% of Des Moines residents.
From what I can tell locally, food pantries are calling for more donations and seem to have a higher need.
The gap between the haves and have-nots is just getting bigger and bigger. Not trying to get a political argument started, just pointing out that the segment of society that is living in poverty is growing.
Stock market is pretty much at all time highs, and unemployment is as low as it has been in past 50 years.
Personally, I would say economy is very strong. But "well-being" or mental/emotional health, along with the growing number of folks living on the edge, lots of room to complain about the health of society in the U.S.
