I'd agree with your aunt, that bird looks like he's watching something. I have pictures of my dad with an obviously live owl in the 70's and I've seen some sitting in plain site in daylight, not one bit afraid of me approaching as close as I dared. Once was a group of mostly grown young ones, didn't care at all if I touched them.
