Subject: RE: Justify a Grain Leg

Central Illinois
1. Prices quoted were for the grain pump only (includes tower but no electrical or pit). Since you have the existing phase converter, electrical should be minimal (relatively speaking).
2. I would hope you have the foundation to add that many rings to your wet bin or you are heading for some problems.
3. The reclaim would be nice for blending, but the same can be accomplished at a fraction of the cost with an extra auger. At the scale you are running augers would last 20+ years before even reflighting.
4. If you are currently dumping at 10k bu/hr (12" double run), why look at a 5.7 bu/hr leg unless you have a big pit and have automation to let it run?
5. If you do go with a portable grain pump it can be easily sold and will retain a much higher percentage of value (compared to and auger or leg).
6. I do get that a grain leg is the nicest and the "luxury" purchase and often farmers can view them as a "trophy" and in the grand scheme it is a small purchase compared to land. I just believe in the long run at your scale the same can be accomplished with minimal extra work at a much lower cost that will benefit your net worth in the long run (smart business decision).

FYI - I am also very much a "cash" buyer that felt I could not justify it even with pushing several more bushels through the system.
