Ben I hope you have better luck with brush control by pulling them than I do. I noticed that in a few years all the little roots that didn't pull out will grow to the surface and where I had one tree I now have multiple sprouts. I'd estimate that happened with 30-50% of the trees I pulled.
After seeing this I've gone to doing a basal bark treatment first then pulling the trees after they die. Yes it's more work but they are dead and I don't have to keep going back to pull them again.
