I've done this three different years. The best method I've had was to bale it as soon as the contract expires in the fall. Then no-till soybeans in the spring. It made a lot of bales and they sold well at the hay auction. I think I made more off of the CRP hay per acre that year than I did with row crops.

I did try both corn and soybeans. The beans did just fine but the corn was way short on yield.
