Subject: Best way to get CRP ground ready for crops

Boone, Iowa

I picked a small field that has been in CRP for 20 years.  The contract expires at the end of September.  My thought was to burn it down this spring, then mow and bale the grass after expiration.  I would get soil sampling done, then do some tillage, maybe disk followed by 870 ripper or vice versa.  Any thoughts?
