| As a couple of others have said, whether you rebuild or replace, you need to add a grease zerk. The top bearing is supposed to be "packed" with grease and there is a grease shield under it to keep grease up there. I replaced my gearbox, and pulled the seal on the new box to find less than one squirt of grease on top of a dry bearing. They sell more parts that way!! There is room between the bearing and seal where you can drill and tap for a 1/4" grease zerk. Once you install a zerk, completely fill this cavity with grease and install new seal. A shot or two once a year and you will likely never work on it again. | |
