Not really. If you use them, they are going to rust and the paint will get knocked off again. Keeping the clean inside is the best thing, but it won't stop rust.Paint helps for a while. I have a 2002 16- or 18-foot bumper version of that trailer. Took pretty good care of it. At about 12 years into the life of it, the front bottom floor Sheetmetal and perimeter of the nose had to be replaced. My shop friend did a wonderful job of fixing and painting. But now days it's starting to show a lot of rusty battle scars in the fenders and the bottoms of the square tubing wall areas of the trailer.
Road salt and road dirt/gravel/in winter or summer is a killer on the outside, acidy cow pee residual is a killer on the inside along the edges and front wall.
