When you get the rust fixed up = wash thoroughly, then coat it heavily with a mixture of diesel fuel and transmission fluid. They both have wax in them that sticks to the metal and help protect the surface (Better then ceramic wax coatings). The trailer will collect dust, but that doesn't hurt. Wash, coat with diesel fuel/transmission fluid and good to go again. The fuel/transmission mixture will last through a couple hot water washing - but in the winter here, the plow trucks and equipment exposed to salt, gets a spray down after each wash. A hand held, pump up sprayer is all that needed to coat the surfaces.
