We use some kind of product advertised as a "rust converter" on our vehicles when they start to rust. I'll get the name off of it tomorrow. The stuff turns the rust into a black layer that's supposed to act as a barrier to future rust. Just how long that barrier lasts I don't know yet. It does not look pretty though. We did the whole frame on an expedition and it was still black a year later when we sold it.
