Any broker/clearing house is an additional risk...even if you don't have a position on and just have money sitting in the account.
A lot of people lost money in MF Global.
No bids, gapping trades and increase in margins could trigger a liquidity crisis that could force other markets to move just to raise cash...if it is violent enough it will pull everyone into the crisis.
