On the plus side the starter is out of the mud and muck and the mechanic isn't laying under the truck getting eyes full of dirt and gravel.
It is, until the Valley becomes filled with oil, water, diesel dust and/or debris. Then it sits there and rusts. IMO a starter should always be on the outside of an engine, where it can be accessed.
