More calves for a shorter time. May-august
Spend a little more on decent cattle, yes there is opportunity to upgrade junk but that usually takes more time/effort.
If he has a little hay to feed buy them a bit sooner to avoid the grass fever prices February/March.
Make sure you have a good pour-on program to keep them from scratching and loosening fences/crawling and crawling out.
Get the heifers spayed or just do steers
Old cows learn the pastures and stay put, typically helps keep the others in. Yearlings will test any fence in anyway they can. | |
