Subject: RE: John Deere 7920 or 7200R

Farmington, Mo
We have a 7200R and it has been a good tractor to this point. Very comfortable cab for the operator, nice screen location, excellent visibility. Never driven a 7X20/30 series so can’t speak for them myself, but I wouldn’t be scared of the 7R provided it is NOT and IVT…others in this thread have mentioned it and a salesman I know who moves a ton of iron every year has had firsthand experience with their issues.

That said, I’m also concerned that it won’t me quite big enough to handle that sized planter. The wheelbase is a fair amount shorter than an 8000/8R of similar horsepower and overall a lighter tractor.

Topography and tillage practices matter too, but I’d be concerned the tractor would have trouble controlling a 24 row going down the road. Flat ground and Notill would probably be ok in the field, but the front end can get light in transport mode. On the plus side, 7R’s have a huge weight bracket so you can stack the same amount of suitcase weights on the front as you can on an 8000.
