Cherokee county, IA | I built myself a mono slope cattle barn this summer, 2 high schoolers and myself. The building itself is 28x80 and the feed way on the front is 12'. Peak height is 18' and and low side is 12'. I used Z style steel purlins for the roof trusses, I manage to scavenge them from the junk yard. A lot of the nailers on the roof were from my neighbor when he had a building blow a wall out. I still need to put an actual cattle water in but that'll happen this summer, still a lot of little things to do but it'll work for this winter. Plan is to back round my spring born calves in it every Dec. Jan. And Feb. And use it for calving then again in March and April when the weather forces me to put them inside.
I managed to build it for real cheap but if I were to do it again I'd listen to all of garvo's past advise and build a gable style barn, it would have been a lot easier than my Frankenstein barn.
