Point was it takes a lot more energy to push thru cold dense air than warm dry air. FWIW planes fly at 30,000ft which requires a longer flight path than 5000ft but uses less fuel on the trip due to the thinner air at 30,000ft generating less drag. It is commonly known air density drastically affects drag.
