New London, Wisconsin | Our Maytag lasted about 25 years with few repairs and we loved it. We now have a whirlpool, 13 years old. It's okay. Sounds like a Pratt and Whitney turbine when it starts up.
I do think a good water soften helps them all last a bit longer. Mostly preventing mineral build up on electric water valves. That part that sticks open on Christmas Day while you are at church and you come home to find water cascading down the basement steps because your first floor is already completely covered in water. Yep. We got the softener after that day.
