Subject: RE: Recommend a washer and dryer set

NW Missouri
We got a speed queen set last time based on the advice on here. My wife wanted the fancier version of the washer (the one with electric controls instead of knobs) only because she uses the delayed start feature a lot to run loads in the night or after everyone has left for the day, and you couldn't get that without going to the fancier controls. Well obviously**** the dryer has to match the washer, so we got the electronic controls on it too (don't remember how much extra that was, but I think less than $100).

We've had them 5 years now. Have not had a single issue with the washer - and are happy with the job it does. But we did have problems with the dryer - due to the stupid electronic controls. I think they came out 3 times to work on it, and they did eventually replace enough parts to get it fixed, at no cost to us. But my wife agrees that we should have gone with the dryer that had simpler controls. The actual drying process is the same on both machines. If you don't use delayed start, I'd get the simpler washer too.

Edit to add - whatever you do, do not get a frontload washer, of any brand. Those are fine if you live in town and your clothes just need freshened up. But if your clothes are actually dirty and need to be cleaned, you want a top load so they can soak and be agitated.
