There is a famous New York real estate mogul whose standard practice was to hire contractors and then not pay out the full contract. Anyone who wanted to challenge him on it could fight his high-powered team of lawyers in the courtroom for years and spend hundreds of thousands on the case or just give up and take the hit. He went on to write a book about how good of a businessman he was and later became a very successful politician. The more money and power you have, the less the law applies to you.

A large retailer did that.......after a while, no one would do business with them unless they paid or the contractor factored it in......if that story is true about the New York businessman, the people he did business with must have not done homework. Word of mouth carries a long way just like this post. The large retailer was famous for not paying or dragging the payment out until many went broke.....After a year or so, word got around and only a few would work for them and they did all their business. Apparently it was profitable for both parties because they traveled all over the country for years building new stores. However, those stories can still be heard and many went broke because they didn't have the cash flow to handle the big retailers terms.

edited to protect the names of the innocent.
