West Central Wisconsin | When I did some commercial snowplowing with a Western MVP in mid-90's I always thought studded tires would be the cat's azz! Most businesses wanted the snow pushed to the rear of the building requiring several turns. After a few passes turning would be a challenge and I thought a set on the front would pull me into the direction I wanted to go. I know they're not allowed in WI but I got to wonder, unless you met up with an old trooper none of the younger generation LEO's would even know what they are, what they're used for and what they look or sound like. I remember driving through MT or ID, 30 years ago, stopping at a rest area and hearing a car pull in with studded tires. Other than mail carriers here in WI, it's the first time I had heard or seen a private car with studded tires. We bought a new JD 428? hay/corn elevator in the late 60's that came with a set of studded tires mounted on the 4-hole, 14" rims. I believe that was shortly after WI banned studded tires so I'm sure they got used up on ag equipment. | |
