Very loose rule of thumb in my location that I go by is, 3 5x6 big bales of grass hay per cow per year. How much covers/stalks you can graze, plus how long your cold weather lasts can effect it some, but less than you might imagine. That being said, I'd keep buying calves for the hassle 15-20 cows would be, and that's from a cow guy
