Currently have a Stihl 251 18 inch bar. Had it quite sometime now. Just getting kinda disappointed in it. Looking to up grade. Tell me what you have and why you like it? My requests are lightweight, easy too start, and something that is more powerful that it's size. What brand or model will make me say I should have bought it years ago.
How much cutting?
My brother got a Echo 58V cordless chanisaw, and I must say I'm very impressed. Has I think a 16inch bar, and has as good of power to weight ratio as my smaller gas powered chain saw. If cleaning up trees after a storm, cutting down and chopping up a tree here and there, I would highly recommend it. If you are looking to cut firewood, or clear a fenceline of trees, not so much. Its biggest weakness seems to be run time. Power wise, it is about on par with a consumer grade saw of the same size/weight, which is enough to get the job done, but nothing to really brag about. However, if you are getting older, or have carpal tunnel like my brother that makes it painful to pull the cord, it is a great choice. He got a kit that also included a leaf blower, pole saw, and 2 batteries. Again, not for all day use, but I'd say the 2 batteries will run the saw long enough to cut down and cut up a 25 foot tall tree with about a 10 inch trunk at the bottom. VERY important to keep the chain sharp, as a dull chain eats the batteries quickly.
Here is a link to a test of cordless chain saws, the Echo seems to have done well, but the DeWalt seems to have done really well also, and many people have batteries for that one.
