Maybe. But I’ve locked up in swimming pools enough to know I have absolutely zero control over it. I was dumb enough at 10 years old to believe a friend that convinced me if I jumped off a diving board my body would involuntarily make itself swim. It did not, I locked up. I would’ve drowned if I hadn’t got pulled out.
I went to high school with a kid like that. He was with a group swimming at a friend’s house and his head went under, he assumed a fetal position and sank. Friend’s mom pulled him out, then over the next few months gave him one on one swimming lessons so it wouldn’t ever happen again. Turns out he can swim just fine, he just thought he couldn’t.
