coast of Maine
My daughter climbs right along with him .No kids yet. They climb El Capitan often. There are routes that require over night stays on the wall. They sleep in sling type hammocks at a couple thousand feet up.One odd thing is ALL items brought up need to be brought down ,,including P and Poop.It would be a bit odd to have that need up there but it does often. They were on a wall last season when a few 100 ft away on another route a man above dropped a supply bag(maybe 10 lbs) the group just starting up got hit ,one died.I gave my children a bit of exploration and thrill seeking experiences when young(as I was nuts) and it seems they all enjoy adrenalin.I liken it to race car driving or snow sled racing in the addictiveness of the thrill. My SIl has routes that on other mountains they did it first and get to name the route. There are many cliffs that have the wrong stone type to climb safely. My daughter is an excellent Ice climber as well, they travel to walls of ice in the north or in the Alps in Europe ,when it gets thick. That is a crazy climb and if you lose feelings in your toes and fingers from the cold ,,,you are done,,as all of you know farming is actually very much more dangerous,be careful out there.
