Northeast Missouri | I have a full set of front weights on a 2wd White 170, but that's not enough when using a mounted high-speed disk (~7,000 lbs)...I end up having to steer almost mostly with brakes, especially after the disk gets enough wet dirt sticking to it.
The weight bracket is bolted onto the cast frame with 4 bolts (I'm guessing 5/8") but it's an essential part of the front end assembly (see pic) so I really don't think I can go without it to put something else in its place.
I've considered putting fluid in the front tires. Charts say mine hold 27 gallons of fluid, which would be just over 200 lbs per tire of methanol blend. That might be help but (1) I'd rather not run fluid in the fronts, and (2) I'd think extending weights out farther in front for more leverage on a mounted implement would be better.
Another alternative I guess, is to remove the front weights and build a side-frames-and-weight-bracket assembly such that part of the weight would be borne by the weight bracket but the weights could be moved ahead by more than a foot (plus adding a few more weights). The concern with pushing weights too far forward is whether the weight bracket could take the strain of that.
Ideas? Now I wish this tractor had a front hitch so I could hang a ton concrete block on the front like they do in Europe.
