My dad had a fenced off portion of the field with steel posts, but the cattle knocked them all down and trampled them into the soil.
He couldn't risk running the tractor over them, so he asked me to find them. I had rented an industrial pin finder, which is a much more sensitive metal detector.
Properly adjusted, it could detect metal 10 feet away.
