| Whiterock,
Sometimes my mind turns kinda slow, but I've been thinking a little more about fuel use. One conclusion I have arrived at is that ground speed takes a lot more power than I ever thought. It would be interesting to know what percentage of engine power is dedicated to ground speed, vs threshing. IIRC, you run 8 row head, and also mentioned most fields have slopes. Those numbers start to make more sense to me. The numbers on our machine probably look too good to be true, because we're on flat ground pushing a 12 row in 250 plus corn, typically. Our best fuel efficiency this year was on our best circle. Ground speed was slower, plus there were more bushels to divide the fuel against. Of course, op center also paints it rosy when it's just fuel used while in the field. Just some ramblings. I'm in no way throwing any stones or anything, just trying to reconcile the difference in fuel usage. | |
