s.e. Pa | I have been working on fixing up an old truck for years. I’m planning to paint the cab between Christmas and new years and could use some advice. The cab is off, mounted on a stand I made so it’s easy to work on and move with pallet forks. I did a lot of welding on it to get rid of rust. I was careful, and am reasonable ok at welding, but there will still need to be some body filler in areas. I’m not going for perfection, but want it to look acceptable. There is all kinds of conflicting information out there about when to use body filler. My question is, am I better to sandblast, take a couple days on body filler, and then epoxy prime? This time of year the air outside is dry, and in the shop is even drier. Or better off to sandblast, epoxy prime to seal things up, then do my body filler? I guess it would be easier to do the body work on bare metal and then prime and paint, but I’d maybe like advice from someone who has done it. I have painted a fair amount before and done several trucks, but none of them had this level of body work needed.
