If your schedule permits I would not visit till September or early October. Kids are back in school & big crowds are gone home. Also the reservation is not needed to travel the road then. Used to go over couple time a year for a scenic drive in summer. Way to busy now in July& Aug to be able to stop & park anywhere. Kids always liked having a snowball fight at the top parking lot in June.
