I agree. They always say the "backup plan" is simple but when my Thunder tarp controller quit, it took an hour to get it so I could open manually. I even had wrenches in the cab to take out the bolt but of course it was seized in there good. And a LOT of pressure on it. Then the crank handle didn't want to go on very well. Finally, there is quite a bit of tension on that thing so its certainly more difficult than normal. Perhaps the other brands are easier.

Why I stated in my first post that an older driver or small woman is going to be SOL if they need to disconnect the motor. From getting the crank on (which isn't too terrible, provided you have a good hammer to beat it on, AFTER you have been successful removing the bolt, which might take a few different tries to get the crank on JUST right) to removing the bolt (get the proper amount of tension on the handle so the bolt is loose when you climb out over the tarp, because you can't quite reach it from the platform) to holding it back because of the tension if it's open, to cranking it against the tension to open it. |
