Fruita CO | Yeah, of course there's a lot of old abandoned places, but not with the huge barns, silos, schools, & churches like in Barb's pics. Most of the homesteads here in the mountains that didn't survive the Depression were just a log cabin or tarpaper shack. Bought up for pennies or just taken over by bigger ranches. I know Eastern Colorado was one of the worst Dust Bowl areas. Just didn't get so much infrasrtucture built up before hard times hit, I guess...
This is an old homestead I looked at last summer with my cousin the real estate guy...160 acres still owned by the descendants of the original homesteader. it's landlocked in a 20,000 acre ranch now...
