Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | The type of cable coming in from the roof unit will help you decide: 1) if it is CoAx then the device on the roof is an antenna only. This is sometimes referred to as a "Dumb Antenna". 2) if the cable is not CoAx but a cable with multiple wires and some type of connector such as a 9 pin Type D then the device on the roof includes the antenna and the GPS engine (electronics to perform the calculations). These are sometimes referred to as "Smart Antennas".
Genuine Ag Leader displays have always had a 9 pin connector meaning they do not have the GPS engine inside them. Therefore the GPS engine must be elsewhere. It could be a separate "box" inside the cab or up on the roof as part of a Smart Antenna.
I've had several genuine Ag Leader displays and they have all had a 9 pin connector for the GPS. When I had an Insight in the planter tractor I had it connected to a Trimble 332 (GPS engine only) which was connected via a CoAx to a dumb antenna on the roof. I sometimes moved it to my combine where I used a Raven Phoenix 200 Smart Antenna which had everything in the enclosure on the roof. I am now using Ag Leader 6500 and 7500 GPS units. These are Smart Antennas so both the brains and antenna are in the enclosure on the roof. The cable leading to the display uses a 9 pin connector.
Somewhat of an exception to the above was for a time when Ag Leader was selling the Trimble CFX 750. It had the GPS engine inside the display and it was connected to a dumb antenna on the roof. The cable between the two was a CoAx.
