Southeast PA | 2500 has 3/4 straight shanks. One we have at work is a 5 shank. We run nichols no till points. If you replace them before the vertical part of the point wears off you can get 2 points per 1 shank. Also keep the straight coulters in line with the shanks to prevent side wear on the shank. Keeping big diameter coulters cuts down on shank wear also. Ours has the "berm tuckers" which are basically press wheels that ride just behind and to each side of the shank. They help press the furrow back down a little bit but not quite flat. Done in the fall there's no problem to planting next spring. If we rip after manure traffic we run a Salford over it just to level out the ridges. If you have compaction, it will lift up chunks between the shanks which break up like blocks about 12-16" long.
We sometimes run out of traction pulling with a 340hp tractor 12-16" deep.
