Who cares if it's no-till or not. The companies call them no-till shanks. Now to your question. You do want the no-till shanks. I had a DMI with the MRD (Minimum Residue Disturbance) shanks and it looks like a chisel plow went through. If you want to even have a chance of planting straight into it, you have to have the no-till shanks with the press wheels behind the shank that closes it back down. I've had a DMI 500 (identical to a CaseIH 2500 just before CaseIH bought them) and a John Deere 2100. The John Deere is a heavier made ripper and I like it better. I do have the no-till shanks and 7 inch winged point but no press wheels. If I wanted to, I could plant straight into it maybe 30% of the time. There's several video's on YouTube that shows what it looks like with the press wheels.
