| Weve owned an Unfferferth, Krause & two CIH 2500 rippers. the 2500s & Krause are what is considered no-till. Of the 3 rippers we prefer the 2500. The Unverferth left the surface a lot rougher & the Krause 4850 (7 shk) was a lot harder pulling. Of the 3 it was the only pt, which may account for he harder pulling, was a load for our Versy 50. Pull the current 2500 (3pt 5 sk,) with either a Magnum 275 or 315, both pull it about the same.
Biggest issue we had with the Krause was getting it stuck in the ground & not being able to lift it with out backing up. Dealer put larger lift cylinders on the caddy which help some but didn't completely solve the problem. Friend is a partsman for a Krause dealer & he said his dad bought a 4855 & has the same problem.
On the CIH no-till shanks there is no replacement wear parts other then the points. So when shank wears down you have to replace the shank. Krause had a wear strip on the front & wear plates on the side. These wear parts made it throw more dirt. The Unverferth we had was an older model & only had a wear strip on the leading edge of the shank & as I recall was considered a medium till so left the surface very rough. Dont let the thought of the cost of buying new shanks for the 2500 scare you off. Price for the wear parts for the Krause was higher than the CIH shank. | |
