I am on the board that made the decision for our district in central Mo, Mondays off, Same exact hours taught in the year just less days.

Staff seem to like it parents seem to have gotten used to it, original intent for our district was "to help attract and retain teachers"

Original intent from the state as I understand was to help rural districts with transportation costs as buses would only be running 4 days instead of 5

bottom line is, this is the new trend in public education for the forseeable future and if your district is a 5 day week and everyone around is 4 day you are going to have a little tougher time finding staff

That is the push here too, attracting and retaining teachers. From what I understand, which is limited, there isn't much other conversation happening in our district about this. But, I suppose someone has to start the ball rolling, and we might be the first that do it. There is certainly cost savings to 4 days a week as well, from a busing and meal standpoint. I just struggle with the idea of knowing kids that have bad home lives, or parents that don't have the resources to pay for care, or that extra few meals on a day off each week. It'll be interesting as this continues to be talked about at our school.
