Success is a grind, to achieve big things it takes hard work and dedication. Most don't have the fortitude, either mental or physical, to achieve at high levels. Sports in high school are voluntary and yes they do keep score. Some of the best lessons I ever learned came from playing sports.
I agree with you on most of this. Somewhere there is a fine line that I believe some cross in pursuit of fame and greatness that pushes everything else that can contribute to a well rounded individual to the side and elevate sports and dominance on the playing field as the pinnacle of achievement.
Agree. Perspective is so important but hard to recognize in the moment. Sports can instill great habits: goal setting, dedication, teamwork, resilience, delayed gratification and so on. Bad experiences, however, can be equally destructive.
