Subject: RE: 2730 chisel breaking shanks

Pontiac, IL.
Just finished the third season with my 2730. Almost 2,000 acres per year. no problem with shanks breaking. Have sheared pins where fields have rocks. Had bearings go out on 3 different disc gangs this year. All on front disc gangs. One of the gang nuts had been overtightened from the factory, and stripped the threads. Had to get a 1" impact wrench to get it off. Went to order a new nut from Deere and dealer said that they were N/A and 90 on backorder from Deere. Lucked out and second closest
Deere dealer had one in stock. Not fun to change bearings. Need a 3/4 " impact Universal joint. Fairley short impact socket, and about 3 men. No grease zirks on bearings, which MAY be better than greasable bearings. Last year, had a flat tire, and 3 of the lug nuts were stripped from being overtightened. Machine does a great job, but it is MASSIVE. I would think that you may have gotten a bad batch of shanks. How many acres on the machine?
