Might be growing corn next year, and we don't own a corn head. Never even grown corn on the farm. No flaming for "everyone thinks they need to grow corn". If I could, I wouldn't grow it but I need to add to my rotation. I've never looked at a corn head in person, but have seen plenty of photos so I understand the concept of one.

Give me a good education on what to look for in one? Reasons to choose chopping over none? Would be nice to have a yellow New Holland head, but I've read certain models of those aren't great? Budget would be low. Not looking to spend a big pile of money on it if corn doesn't work out but still want to do a good job.

Geringhoff? Drago? CNH? Are hydraulic deck plates necessary? What options should I not or not have.

Do I even dare just use an all crop header? I bet I could harvest corn with my Sheyenne Sunmaster but I would have to harvest the whole stalk.

Acreage would be 500 or less. Head would be going on a CR9070 with duals. Would be harvesting behind a 16 row planter but have the ability of RTK, so 12 row head isn't it out of the question. Based on trial data I've seen, yield would be 100-150bu. Would harvest 1/2 mile passes, so about 1 mile total minus headland. Majority of time would be stopping to dump, combine has about a 400bu capacity.

Thank you.

I see first comment, and thank you for that post has a head recommending 40-50k. Anything cheaper like 20k or less or do I need to double my budget for something good?

Hmmmm.
Bait.

Bait? How so? I'm genuinely interested in growing corn at this time and there is very few in my area that grow corn. Or like my 1 neighbor, this year was also their first. Another neighbor grows it but just chops it for cow food.
