Subject: RE: 4 Day School Week

Highland Center, in Southeast Iowa

Aaron SEIA - 11/30/2023 16:41 My district is looking at switching to a 4 day school week. Anyone here been in on that before? Have any kids/teach in one now? What are the pros and cons from those who have "been there done that". AaronSEIA

Not "our" district, but a nearby one (Cardinal of Eldon) has done 4-days for ... I think .... 3 years now. Most of the motivation was due to Indian Hills CC being on 4-days and many parents and teacher-spouses work at Hills. It seems to have worked out pretty well for them so far, but no other local districts have followed suit. It's a child-care nightmare for parents who drive distances to work. Personally, I think that education, especially by the high school ages, needs to reflect the real world that kids will be going out into to work. Will the world be predominantly 4-day by the time they graduate? I kinda doubt it. Will require some adjustments from kids who've gotten into a real groove of only being "up and not crying" 4 days a week.
