WC MN & Valley of the Sun, AZ | One way to think about it -- If one has a diesel engine running at the perfect RPM for optimum fuel economy and emissions hooked to a generator with sufficient power for the high torque demand situation, it's oversized for steady state, cruising down the flat highway, operation. So one either has to reduce engine RPM and take it out of its sweet spot, or dump that excess power somewhere like a resistor and burn it off as waste heat (you'll find these on electric drive mining trucks), or store it in a battery.
There's no such thing as a free lunch. |
