Sounds like you need to get 500 cows . Ever ran a cow/calf operation?
No kidding. 500 cows and calving them and taking care of them for 365 days for 100k. A lot of variables here, but if the hundred k is after all expenses paid but only income for 1 man's time (no hired help in the expenses), most guys would 1. Have a trainwreck and would never see the 100k. 2. Have to hire a bunch of help to get through it and won't see the hundred k. 3. Probably still have a trainwreck followed by a mental breakdown.
Cow calf has been a loser here for a lot of years vs. other opportunities especially when you figure the man hours per dollar. We have cut our herd to the bare minimum. Gave up all rented grass. We may discontinue the whole enterprise in the future at some point as everyone involved can easily be fully employed without the cattle and the headache they can be at times. I used to ne on the page that if you are looking after 1, you might as well be looking after 400. I am no longer in that camp.
