N Central IA | I believe the heavy gudgens are steel not cast in the newer tractors, the 8960 is steel so would assume it is heavy, not an option only one offered in those series. Not aware of any axle issues, it’s about time for a hydraulic pump failure if it hasn’t happened yet, not the end of the world they are very solid tractors. That thing should run a long time at that hp setting.
